So, when I was a kid, something traumatic happened to me. Plants invaded our house. Vines from the outside got so strong that they started to destroy our brick wall. You can see my dad peeling off that plant carpet that got so strong that it was destroying our brick. In the Gospel for this Sunday, Jesus says, “I am the vine; you are the branches.” Jesus is the great unifier. We are all the body of Christ under Jesus, the vine that keeps us connected. When we are unified, we are unbreakable. And so my invitation for us this Sunday is to see if there is any division in your heart if there’s any division with a family member or a friend, or your arch nemesis. Ask Jesus to bring about a greater union because the reality is that division weakens. Union with Jesus strengthens and becomes unbreakable. This is Spirit Juice. Peace.

Embracing Shame
Defensiveness, denial, rationalization, avoidance. What do these things have in common? It’s what we do when we avoid shame. None of us like to experience shame. None of us like to experience suffering. And we love to avoid. We love to deny. We love to distract ourselves because shame does not feel good. Here is the gospel, though, where Saint Peter does the same thing. He tells Jesus…

The Most Important Position
So it’s about time we talked about Quidditch, which is obviously a real sport. After consulting many experts, the reality is that the most important position is not the seeker, the keeper, or the chasers; the two beaters on the field are protecting the rest of the team, enabling everyone to feel safe. If this makes no sense, stay with me. In the second reading for this Sunday…
