Spoiler alert! If you have or haven’t seen Obi-Wan Kenobi, the new show on Disney+, here is Obi-Wan Kenobi, who is struggling with a lot of fear. Obi-Wan gets rid of his identity as a Jedi and buries his lightsaber in the sand. But what’s so amazing is one of his buddies, Senator Organa, comes to him and basically reminds him of his identity. And so that fear, that anxiety, starts to fade away because someone else has reminded him of his identity as a Jedi, who he truly is.
In Sunday’s Gospel today, there’s the scene of Martha and Mary, where Martha is very anxious about many things, but Mary is able to rest with Jesus. The same thing applies to us. When we realize how loved we are by Him, that can take away so much of that fear, that anxiety, that is absolutely from the evil one. And that we can actually reclaim our lightsaber, or aka your identity in Christ.

Will You Know Jesus?
If I were blindfolded and placed in front of a lineup of women, one of them being my mom, I absolutely would be able to choose my mom out of the lineup because I know her. I know how she speaks to me. I know what she smells like. I know everything about her. I know it all. In the gospel for this Sunday, Jesus speaks to those who are not prepared, amen. I do not know you. It’s terrifying…

Happy Candlemas
So, this Sunday is so awesome. We are celebrating the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, also known as Candlemas. All of these candles will be brought into the church and blessed because we are celebrating the light of Christ coming into the temple for the first time. The people of Israel have been waiting for this moment forever. This would be like all of our churches having an empty tabernacle for hundreds of years…

Invite Jesus In
In the ancient world, water symbolized chaos and death, something dangerous, unpredictable, and overwhelming. On the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, Jesus steps directly into those waters. He enters into chaos, into death itself, and transforms it. This is what Jesus always does: He enters the places we’re afraid of and begins the work of redemption. Whatever chaos we carry may it be sickness, trauma, fear, or loss, Jesus wants to enter it with us. All we have to do is invite Him in. That’s where healing begins.
