Shout out to everyone who is single. That’s right. And coming from a celibate priest, I need to let you know it will be okay. We can often experience a feeling of not being chosen when living a single life. We can often feel as if, I guess, I’m just not worth it. There’s something wrong with me. But the beautiful reality of the gospel today is Jesus, who says, “I will not leave you as orphans.” We are not orphans, and you are not an orphan, that the Lord has chosen you.
The God of the universe has chosen you since the beginning of time. You will never be left alone. You will never be an orphan. You have never been an orphan, and you have always been chosen. Also, being single is a grace. You have so much time to grow in your self-knowledge, grow in virtue, and really get after it.

A Father Who Keeps Us Safe
I was just in the Gulf of Mexico, went to the beach, and saw something crazy. I saw a father placing his 2-year-old son on the edge of the water, and he sat there and let his son walk forward. The son took one step into the ocean, looked back at his dad, smiled, turned back, and took one more step forward, and he kept doing this. This little 2-year-old boy felt safe amid a vast, powerful, dangerous ocean because he knew…

Stop Social Climbing
Stop social climbing. That should be the tagline for this Sunday’s gospel. Jesus is saying that, trying to gain social status, trying to reach the highest seat, which we will never truly satisfy. Jesus is saying, Your identity is in me. When we forget about our identity in Jesus, that’s when we try to gain status. That’s when we try to find love in all of the wrong places. And so Jesus says, “Stop doing that and see me….

What If
Let’s play the what-if game. In the gospel for the Sunday, what if Peter left Jesus? We wouldn’t have the Eucharist. We wouldn’t have a pope. We wouldn’t have the Catholic Church. We wouldn’t have the sacraments. Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift would never have met. But seriously, Jesus Christ stakes everything, all of salvation, on the mere chance that Peter would say yes and stay with Him. That’s how important…
