I’ve been to many weddings recently. Love is in the air. At one wedding, a man came into the church wearing a t-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops. The best man approached him and said, “Dude, you can’t be here like this.” And the friend responded, “Whatever, man.”
In the Gospel, for this Sunday, a wedding guest is not wearing his wedding garment. He’s saying to the whole wedding party, “Whatever.” And I think we can say that so often to God when we fall into sin, when we avoid him in prayer when we are harboring resentment against people, we’re saying to God, “Whatever.” The best way to fight against that is to say amen. What do we do when we go up for holy communion? When the priest says the body of Christ and we say, “Amen,” we are saying yes to Jesus, to everything the Catholic Church teaches, to growing in holiness.

This is a little dated, but the “Bourne” trilogy. Jason Bourne, an ex-assassin, runs away and hides from the government. He does everything in his power, training, and skill to hide from the government, and he succeeds. When it comes to being a Christian, we will never succeed at hiding from Jesus. Today, Holy Saturday, what does Jesus do? Before the…

Easter Sunday
Happy Easter. He is risen. Jesus Christ is victorious over all sin and death, and we never have to be afraid again. Hallelujah. One of our students at the Newman Center created this artwork on our chalkboard, saying, A bunny will never love you like Jesus. And yes, it’s a little cheesy, but it is so true that we cling to so many other things than Jesus to make us happy. Jesus proved his love for us by dying and rising from the…

So if you have ever been to a job interview, you may have been asked what is your greatest strength. Your greatest weakness can be your greatest strength. And we can so easily identify ourselves with our strengths and our weaknesses. If you are positive, you most likely identify yourself with your greatest strength. You might identify yourself with your…
