Last year, in a faraway magical land known as Italia. A study figured out what month the average Italian gives up on their New Year’s resolution. And you may have guessed it, it’s February. If you didn’t know, February is one month after January. That’s not much time. The realization is that we want to follow through on things; we don’t want to give up. But the problem is that we are not convicted enough to be able to follow through. But there’s nothing more significant to be convicted about on this Earth than Jesus Christ and his promise of being the way, the truth, and the life.
So we are now in February, and my invitation is to follow through with the Lord. Ask Jesus for a greater conviction of your faith. Because we’re no longer talking about New Year’s resolutions but about eternity.

This is precisely what St. Paul is doing in the second reading for this Sunday. He is saying directly to death…

A Father Who Keeps Us Safe
I was just in the Gulf of Mexico, went to the beach, and saw something crazy. I saw a father placing his 2-year-old son on the edge of the water, and he sat there and let his son walk forward. The son took one step into the ocean, looked back at his dad, smiled, turned back, and took one more step forward, and he kept doing this. This little 2-year-old boy felt safe amid a vast, powerful, dangerous ocean because he knew…

Guard Your Time Well
So in the gospel today, a sower goes out to sow, and the sower throws seed down on the thorny ground, and the thorns choke the seeds so the seeds do not flourish. We are often thrown onto the thorny ground, and busyness is one of the big things that really chokes us. Busyness in our lives chokes our relationship with Jesus, and we do not…
