If Iron Man got rid of his suit, who would he be? Genius, billionaire, Playboy from? Okay. Yeah. He would be all of those things. But Tony Stark is more than what he does, and it’s the same for us. Our identity is not what we do, but how we work. Take those things away. Who are we? And the gospel for this Sunday. Martha is identifying with her work. Her work is good, but her identity is not her work. Her identity is not her job. She’s a beloved daughter of the Heavenly Father, and that’s who she is. In the gospel, Jesus says, ‘There’s only one thing, and that one thing is to have Jesus take away our burdens. ‘We still have a relationship with Jesus. Take away our health. We still have a relationship with Jesus. Take away all of our money. Yes, we still have a relationship with Jesus. This is our identity in him.

Corpus Christi
So, one of my buddies is a perpetual pilgrim for the Eucharistic revival, meaning he will walk across the country, over 2000 miles, with the Eucharist, with Jesus. That’s like 645 hours. That’s the equivalent of watching all of the seasons of “The Office” nonstop, eight times in a row. That’s the equivalent of reading the Bible cover to cover nonstop 13 times in a row. So why is he doing this…

Don’t Be Consumed By Wealth
Purple underwear. Say one that’s right in the gospel for the Sunday. This rich man may have been wearing purple underwear. Many scripture scholars have discussed this fine linen, highlighting the absolute extravagance of this rich man’s life. And the heartbreaking thing was the wealth consumed. I need it for us in our lives. Some things consume us that take us away from Jesus. Wealth in and of itself…
