23andMe has nothing on the Catholic Church. They got nothing. They have nothing on this Pentecost Sunday; Jesus Christ reminds us that we, as a church, have a genealogy that goes back to Jesus Christ. As human beings, we have a deep desire to be safe and taken care of, and it is through Jesus Christ and His church that we find this safety. All we have to do is look at Pope Leo the 14th. We look at everyone who came before him, all the way to St. Peter, our first Pope, all the way to Jesus Christ. This is the most fantastic news ever: that we, as Catholics, will be safe until the end of time. The most fantastic news is that we have an unbroken chain of apostolic succession that will continue until the end of time.

Glory To God

So, the Prophet Baruch gives us incredible things to pray about this advent, specifically glory. The Prophet Baruch uses glory six times in the reading. The dictionary doesn’t do the word glory justice as Catholics. That as Catholics, what is glory? Glory is extraordinary beauty. It is holy beauty…

King Herod
So I’m not sure if I can say this as a priest, but King Herod sucks. In the Gospel today, King Herod is evil. He is Voldemort, he is Thanos, he is the Mind Flayer all rolled into one. All he wants to do is control everything, the Jewish people, the Roman government, even to control the God of the universe, even to the point of wanting to kill…

Just Like A Good Goalie
Hugo Lloris is a fantastic goalie on the Tottenham Hotspurs soccer team in English soccer, or if you’re in England, football. Hugo Lloris said this about being a goalie. “It’s not just about the talent. “It’s being in the right place at the right time.” So Jesus in the gospel is saying, “Stay awake. “Be alert. Be prepared. “Be in the right place at the right time.” As Christians, we are often not in the right place…
