Have you guys ever heard of the term skinny fat? Yeah, it’s a thing. It’s a person who looks pretty normal on the outside, but on the inside, fat is growing over all of their organs. Even though you may look fine on the outside, it’s a silent killer. This weekend, we’re celebrating All Souls’ Day, where if we don’t take care of our souls, that’s like a silent killer. We can be great in every other area of our lives, our finances, our family, our relationships, and our work. But if our soul is not intact, that’s the silent killer. About a month ago, at one of his audiences, Pope Leo said, the death of the body is kind of like a sleep, but the death of the soul is. That’s what we must be afraid of. Everything else can be great in our life, but without a relationship with Jesus and the church, that’s the silent killer. So my invitation, prioritize your soul. And when I say soul, I mean your relationship with Jesus and his church. Have a blessed Halloween and All Souls Day weekend.

God is a Just God
The Gospel for this Sunday is all about the judge. You know who is a bad judge? And both of those options lead to death…

Embracing Shame
Defensiveness, denial, rationalization, avoidance. What do these things have in common? It’s what we do when we avoid shame. None of us like to experience shame. None of us like to experience suffering. And we love to avoid. We love to deny. We love to distract ourselves because shame does not feel good. Here is the gospel, though, where Saint Peter does the same thing. He tells Jesus…

Infinite Incomparable Love
Every time I read the Prodigal Son story, I get misty-eyed. My heart is leaking. It’s so beautiful because this passage reveals the absolute, incomparable love of the Father, which transcends reason. It transcends mathematics. It transcends politics. It transcends everything in the world. We cannot calculate it. We cannot understand it, but we can receive it. In the gospels, if Jesus were speaking to a hundred…
