Getting into heaven is just like slacklining. If you’ve ever been to a college campus, you’ll notice those people who go on tightropes in the quad trying to balance on these slack lines. And so I’ve done it before, and I lasted about two seconds. The key is to keep your eyes forward and on the slack line. As soon as you start turning your head to the side or looking at other things, you lose your balance. You fall, whoa.
In the gospel for this Sunday, people ask Jesus, Who’s he going to get into heaven? How many people will be saved? Tell me, tell me, tell me. And Jesus answers in a very Jesus way. And he says, Enter the narrow gate. Jesus is basically saying, Mind your own business and keep your eyes on me. It’s Jesus who is our salvation. We need to keep our eyes on him, mind our own business, and let our hearts conform to his heart.

A Dr. John Watson
Dr. John Watson. If you know anything about Sherlock, Dr. John Watson is the person who really grounds Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock is kind of crazy. He’s over the top. He’s unhinged. Dr. John Watson roots him and grounds him, keeping him rooted in reality. And not only that, but Watson speaks truths to Sherlock, revealing to him where he is wrong and where he needs to grow. In the gospel, this is precisely…

God is a Just God
The Gospel for this Sunday is all about the judge. You know who is a bad judge? Scarecrow from “The Dark Knight Rises.” Scarecrow is one of the villains who presides over a kangaroo court, condemning the aristocracy to death. And he gives them two options, either death or exile. And both of those options lead to death…

Blessed Lent 2024
Okay, guys, this is it. It is happening. Lent 2024. It is finally here, and this will be the best lent ever for us. Jesus says in the gospel today, “Repent and believe in the gospel.” We are called to believe the gospel. CS Lewis, an absolute spiritual savage, said, “You should never believe anything unless you think it’s true.” And so the amazing reality is that…
