At 3:00 p.m. today, my face will be on the floor. For Catholics, on Good Friday, the priest lays prostrate on the ground, representing Jesus giving his whole self, his whole body for us. It signifies total reverence and honor to our Lord, who gave everything. And what I love about our chapel at the Newman Center is that my head will be lying upon the Latin words “Dominum et vivificantem,” which means “The Lord, the giver of life.” Good Friday is so bittersweet. Today’s the day that we killed God. But today is the day that we are recreated and given new life. Have a blessed Good Friday. Know that Jesus gave everything for you, and you’ve been recreated. Let this day be a somber day. Let this day be bittersweet. And know that everyone here at Spirit Juice is praying for you today. Blessed Good Friday. This is Spirit Juice. Peace.

Stop Social Climbing
Stop social climbing. That should be the tagline for this Sunday’s gospel. Jesus is saying that, trying to gain social status, trying to reach the highest seat, which we will never truly satisfy. Jesus is saying, Your identity is in me. When we forget about our identity in Jesus, that’s when we try to gain status. That’s when we try to find love in all of the wrong places. Who Comes First?
The people we love should matter deeply, our family, our spouse, our friends, the people who need us. But in this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus asks a challenging question: who comes first?
When Jesus says that anyone who loves father or mother more than Him is not worthy of Him, He isn’t dismissing our relationships. He’s showing us the proper order of love. When Jesus is truly first, every other love in our life becomes rightly ordered.
So the question is simple but serious: is Jesus actually the center of your life? Family, comfort, plans, priorities. When everything is on the table, who wins? Don’t stand Him up.
