Okay, so have you ever seen a Samoan war chant? One of the most intimidating things you will ever see in your life. The war chant is taunting the other team, taunting the enemy, saying, we’re not afraid of you. There’s nothing about you that makes us scared. We are confident. We are not scared of you at all. This is precisely what St. Paul is doing in the second reading for this Sunday. He is saying directly to death, death, where is your sting? Death, where is your victory? I am not afraid of you because of Jesus Christ. This is great news. So go ahead, learn the Samoan War chant or taunt death; whatever you want to do, know that Jesus Christ is the lamb of God who has taken away the sins of the world. This is Spirit Juice. Peace.

Don’t Say Whatever, Say Amen
I’ve been to many weddings recently. Love is in the air. At one wedding, a man came into the church wearing a t-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops. The best man approached him and said, “Dude, you can’t be here like this.” And the friend responded, “Whatever, man.” In the Gospel, for this Sunday, a wedding guest is not wearing his wedding garment. He’s saying to the whole wedding party…

Guard Your Time Well
So in the gospel today, a sower goes out to sow, and the sower throws seed down on the thorny ground, and the thorns choke the seeds so the seeds do not flourish. We are often thrown onto the thorny ground, and busyness is one of the big things that really chokes us. Busyness in our lives chokes our relationship with Jesus, and we do not…

Start Small
So at the foot of the mountain of Assisi. There is a beautiful church called Saint Mary of the Angels. Inside the church is another very small church called the Portiuncula, which is where Saint Francis began his mission. He didn’t begin as one who was feeding the whole world. He was just a simple man who said yes in a…
