Flicker & Burn: Jim Wahlberg

Episode 5

JIM WAHLBERG

About This Conversation

Jim Wahlberg shares a deeply personal story of addiction, homelessness, incarceration, and the brokenness that shaped much of his early life. He reflects on growing up in a chaotic home, becoming a ward of the state, spending years in prison, and the constant need for approval that drove so many of his choices. In one of the most pivotal moments of his life, Jim encountered Mother Teresa during a prison Mass and heard, in a way he never had before, that God loved him. That moment opened the door to a relationship with Christ and began a long process of conversion, recovery, and healing.

Jim also speaks candidly about what happened after that conversion, including the ways he drifted, the role his wife and daughter played in drawing him back toward Christ, and why recovery means far more than simply not drinking or using drugs. He reflects on fatherhood, caring for his mother at the end of her life, helping families affected by addiction, and the importance of living as an example rather than trying to force faith on others. Through it all, Jim returns to one conviction: no matter how far someone has fallen, nothing is too big for Jesus.
